Holdshott

Went to Holdshott trails last Sunday, long way to travel but worth it just to be able to ride some jumps at this time of year is amazing. The spot is in this awesome woods on private land, on a nice steep hill.

What I rode was super fun, not much of the lines were running though and it was wet and slow and I'm shit and didn't have the balls to do the whole line even though they weren't that big. I blame it on the wetness and that there mtb jumps, they had this weird pump in the middle of the landings, like a double dip but not really, any way I didn't like it, now I'm just making excuses. Definitely would like to go back in the summer when its nice and dry and there all running good.

Haha gotta love that sign, - 'NO BMX'. Locals seemed pretty chilled though, out of about 15 riders I was the only bmxer. Its like that at Moos too.

Anyway thanks to all the locals, I hope I will be allowed back some time. If we ever get Moos back then you guys are welcome to visit.

Haha

More ramp pics

Couple more pics from last weekend.

Next year I'm going to make a berm to the left of the quarter and put something next to the box, a spine or maybe a volcano.

Ramp update

Ed T on my back garden ramp.
It doesn't have coping or a deck yet, but I've finally managed to source a scaffold pole for the coping thanks to Leon for helping out with that.

When I was viciously attacking this collapsed old scaffold tower with a club hammer I managed to hit myself in the back when the end of the hammer came loose and flew up in the air I had no idea where it went then it came down and landed on my back. A short time later I was partially crushed by a tree which fell over when we removed part of the tower it was leaning on. Good times.

Villij trail gardening

Haha I hate cutting grass so I think I'll stick with the moss but I like, looks good.

This winter I want to plant some trees and stuff to green up some of the bare areas where nothing is growing. Maybe the council would help out and source me some trees!

Like a boss

We have gates now, council put them in for us. I didn't want a big gate like this, I wanted just a bar, but the council didn't want the hassle of fabricating a bar set up. But now there in it does look pretty boss, feels more official as well, we are still along way off that but its seems like a step forward.

Looking through old pics

This line was the best. I hope to ride it again one day and fix the jump after the berm so it runs good, maybe next summer.

Took this in March 2011 and it isn't me by the way, its Harry, who now rides mountain bikes.

Moos

Just to update on the situation, we're still having meetings with the council trying to get stuff sorted but progress is very slow. The council are keen to work out a solution but still can't say whether the trails are going to be safe in the long run.

Really wanted to get everything sorted before digging season but that looks very unlikely at the moment. Next council meeting is next month, all the big guns are going to be there so maybe we'll get some where.

Seen on POWs, they have a load more pics like this go see them - http://www.powsbmx.com/indexV2.php

Bad year for trails

Been some mad storms in the UK, massive hail and flash floods. Looks like Villij got hit bad, sucks, so depressing when you work hard to dial stuff in and then this happens.

Rain again

Next Clyne Riders meeting is at 6pm on 4th July at the Civic Centre. Anyone who rides in Clyne is welcome to come. Has been lots going on recently so if you want to know what's happening then come along.

Now to rant about the weather, it's been horrific this month, 7 inches of rain in June the wettest in Wales since 1910! Forecast is for some more rain as well, lovely.

Gorge

Want to ride those berms!

Council update

Didn't think we had much hope after reading the planning report but since then we've had a couple more meetings with the council and things are starting to look more positive. The council seem to really want to find a solution now and have started to realise that cycling in Clyne will continue whether its is managed or not and that it will be better for everyone if the trails and dirt jumps are official.

Don't want to get too excited, because its not going to be quick but I'm hopeful that we'll get there in the end. Want to say thanks to AM Julie James for continuing to support us, Julies really made a difference and things have started to progress alot more quickly since she got invloved.

Next meeting in a few weeks.

Summer

The sun finally came out so I headed up the woods to check on stuff yesterday. Bit worried of what I'd find as I kind of neglected the trails a bit recently and the weathers been horrific. Anyway got there had a look around and was pretty stoked everything is ok, loads of tarps blown off but only one corner of one landing collapsed!

Stuff has mossed up amazing as well, and the woods is looking sweet, leaves are out and bluebells have gone crazy. It's sad to see the place like this, so quiet up there, everyone should be up there now having fun and bbqs and doing trains, I haven't done a train round the 270 in ages, those were good times!

I haven't got any news yet, but I've seen a planning report from the council and it seems like bad news but I really don't have a clue what's going to happen at the moment. I get the feeling we will get a decision very soon on whether the trails can stay or maybe they have to go.

Haven't given up hope yet, but if they do go I reckon I've got time for one more spot, getting too old! Need the youngsters to take over soon, there loads who are stoked on building and riding but there's no where for them to go, we could be an epic scene but it's dying right now.

Right I'm off to Canada for two weeks yeee! Hope Moos will be there when I get back!!

More rain please haha

Tasty weather recently, there's no more news on the trails, but they wouldn't be ridable anyway!

Since Swansea has no skatepark, this week I have been mostly riding pump tracks and bmx tracks. Also been spending some time on a little backyard project I've been working on.

Prefer to be riding/digging trails but for now this will have to do!

Get a BMX?

Milan from Get a BMX contacted me the other day about his website and their spot guide, it's a good idea for sure. I know Build the Woods and some other sites have a similar thing going but I really like this one as there's a sweet write up about each spot.

Check out our page here, looks good!

RIP

The berm is gone. Well it had to moved from the tree trunks last year due to environmental considerations so it was already pretty much ruined but we were going to fix it up eventually. But now its been removed completely by the council!

Lots of fun times riding that line. Bad year so far and all this rain and we can't even dig!

We need your help to save Moos

Things have moved on since my last post, we now know that we will be having a meeting with the council very soon. This meeting is going to be crucial in deciding the outcome of the trails.

We've been busy preparing our case, but we also need help from the trails community. We need everyone to write a letter or send an email of support to the council giving your views on why the trails need to be saved. It doesn't have to be an essay!

Your help will be much appreciated, please spread this around, we can set a precedent for other trails if we are successful!

Moos trails is the premier BMX & Mountain bike Dirt jump facility in Wales. It is a world class facility that was built almost entirely by volunteers from the local community that is now being threatened with destruction due to a misunderstanding between the site users and the Local council. Ironically it was the work that was done with council approval and funding that has caused us the most problems.

We are mounting a campaign to try and save this facility and have the support of large sections of the community as well as Welsh Assembly Member Julie James. Your letter, and those from anyone you know will help our cause immensely.

Please send letters or emails to;

Jack Straw - Chief Executive City & County of Swansea

Latest news - need your help to save Moos!

Things have moved on a bit recently, initially we thought the trails were going to be ploughed but it seems not to be the case.

Looks like we're going to be given the chance to present our case for Moos to the council executives. Environmental impact seems to be the biggest problem and we should soon see the environmental report which will give us an idea of what we need to do to mitigate the issues.

Until we get this report we can't really do much, but we need to be able to show the council that there's lots of support for the trails and that they are worth saving. So we're looking for people to send us letters of support addressed to the council which we can pass onto to them. It doesn't matter if your not local, if you've ridden Moos or even just follow the blog we need you to let the council know why its important to save the trails.

If your interested in helping then please send an email to me at danieljones900@hotmail.com and I will send you more info about what you need to do. Also if you have any other advice or expertise which could assist us then let me know.

Don't forget to keep an eye on our facebook page for updates http://www.facebook.com/#!/groups/192662447451871/.

Riding this time last year

Not this year, not yet anyway. Don't know whats going to happen to the trails at the moment the situation sucks though.

The environmental impact seems to be a bit of an issue, think we should've of said it was a very short xc loop !! loads of xc and dh trails getting built in South Wales with no issues. Is moos worse than bench cutting xc trails into the hill side don't get it.

2012

No news on the trails yet, don't really know why its taking so long we still haven't got the environmental report.

Spring is coming and the new trail season, its going to be hard to have no where to ride, no woods to chill with friends and no bbqs.
