No news on the trails yet, don't really know why its taking so long we still haven't got the environmental report.

Still waiting for the council to get back to us on the surveys, it seems that the outcome of the environmental survey is going to be decisive. There's an idea that we can turn the area into a nature reserve incorporating the trails which would be awesome, some people think that we got a good chance of making this happen, but some are saying we're doomed, who knows!

It's crazy that the environmental impact is such a big factor, just the other side of the woods the council want to build hundreds of new houses surely the impact of the trails is totally insignificant in comparison. How can the same people think on one hand that its ok to tear up 8 hectares of woods and fields for houses, and then on then get so worried about the environmental impact of a few mounds of dirt, its ridiculous!

Planning update

Ok alot of people are asking what's going on with the trails so here's the situation. There's not really much progress yet, we haven't submitted the planning and we're waiting for the council to finish doing surveys so at the moment this is whats holding everything up. Hopefully this will be finished soon and then we can get the planning application submitted.

So for now the trails are going to remain tarped up and no building or riding is allowed. The council are still supporting us and so are the local community so I think we still have a chance.

Walk in the woods

Made the trip to Swansea today to check on the trails. Everything was good apart form some missing tarps but I sorted that now. Still really dry up there and leaves everywhere.

Couple of people came up to have a look at the trails and gave me directions to a rope swing in the woods so I checked it out on the way home. Surprised how awesome it was really, pretty sketchy, super fun though.

Just a little bit of good news, a few of us went to a meeting with a local community group, the Clyne Valley Community Project (CVCP), they had some concerns about the project. Our guys went to explain the positives of formalising the trails, I didn't attend but I think it went well. I hope we can work with these guys, having visited their website it seems that we have alot of common objectives with regard to encouraging the use of the valley by the community.

Spotted this new blog from a link on the POWs site, have a look here. The woods look so good, trails look amazing as well, I'd love to be digging there right now I miss the fun times digging at the trails, winters going to be tough this year.

Took a walk up to the trails on the weekend just to have a look, everythings ok, well one tarps gone but apart from that its good. Was dry as well could have done some sweeping and riden, was tempting for sure. No news really things are moving so slowly, we're waiting for an environmental report before we can go any further.

There's not been much progress as far as the trails are concerned we still haven't submitted the planning application and we're waiting for an environmental impact report which needs to done first. Its looks like its going to be a long wait, don't think we're going to be doing any digging this year!

We're also working with the council to get the xc/fr/dh trails official in the woods near Moos, the planning application is in progress and we need to get emails to the council to show our support. So please send an email, it doesn't have to be an essay!

Nothing really happened yet as far as getting a decision on the trails, these things always take longer than you think. Going to be at least a few more months before we get any decision.

Have only been up the trails a few times in the last months, took a few pics last week when I went up to check on the tarps before the storm came. Everything was all ok, place is looking pretty wild, could do with a sweep!

Massive tree branch that came down, no jumps harmed just fell on the run in. No more looking for wood for the bbq!

Sad news went up the trails on Sunday to do some work for the council and discovered that one of the biggest beach trees has dropped a branch. Half the tree is gone! It was a huge branch 4ft thick easy and it took a whole oak tree with it! Now I know your thinking did it flatten half the trails...well no..haha but it made a right mess of the run in.

I suppose it could end up being a good thing, if the trails pull through we'll have a life time supply of logs!

Apart from that the trails are looking perfect under the tarps.

Help us save the trails, otherwise alot of toads are going to lose their homes, these guys love tarps!

We had a meeting with the council yesterday, I think I'll get in trouble if I put the details up on here! But basically there's a whole load of stuff to do to get the planning application submitted.

We were initially told it would be 3 months but it looks like it going to take longer than that don't think we'll be riding again this season.

The facebook group is going good, we've already got nearly 700 members, thanks to everyone for their support it will definitely help our cause. Will be setting up an online petition soon.

Nothing to do with the planning or anything... ages ago I sent of a dirt sample to Sweden as some dude needed to choose soil for djs and he got it analysed, here are the results, I'm afraid its in Swedish!

Particle size is the horizontal axis, and the % of the sample below that size is the vertical axis.

Results are
14% clay
49% silt
32% sand
5% gravel

I expected more clay, thought it was quite interesting tho, maybe I'm just sad!

Ok just received bad news I'm afraid, we are going to need planning, so from today no one is to ride or dig at either of the jump spots, otherwise they will be ploughed.

Edit - here's the situation, we cannot touch the jumps, that means building or riding until the planning permission has gone through. If the council become aware that anyone is doing things at the trails then they will be ploughed, simple, you have been warned. This applies to Clyne and Moos. The planning could take up to 3 months!

If the planning is not approved then it looks like the end of the trails, however we are hopeful that this won't happen. When I get details I will post them up here so people can email the council to show there support for the trails.

We had possibly the last ride tonight and it was awesome, everythings tarped up now, the first lip on main and small line have been destroyed to prevent people riding.

About lunch time I got the news, had seen a post on the blog but didn't really believe it. Then I got the phone call, no riding or digging for up to 3 months, maybe never again if planning isn't approved.

So went up after work took some pics, did super fun trains round the 270, turn bared a few things, then it was time to tarp up and take down the first lips to stop people riding.

So thats it, no trails for the summer, great!

Shouldn't have to be saying this as its basic trail etiquette... but if your going to ride then you have to water first, that means everyone! I can see that some of you were struggling with the bucket and cup method, there's 2 new watering cans now so no excuses.

Right that's the saltyness done. Had some sweet chilled sessions recently and some awesome bbqs. All the lines are running really smooth, 270 berm is sick now and 8th lip is so much better, still digging on the small line new feature is looking insane!

Not too much riding going on recently.. well before the gross weather we rode the trolol berms in and they were intense but recently.. weather has been totally gross, it looked like the end of the world at one point. Anyhow, we did get some more stuff done on the small line, built a pretty small berm to speed jump, this then goes into our new epic feature... its going to be pretty intense, oh yeah, one of the berms wasn't going to plan.. so we resurfaced it to make it steeper and it was awesome BUT THEN it rained and it collapsed, so that was just BRILL..

We changed the third trolol berm into a double pump due to lack of speed so that should make the hip after it a lot easier

Adam and Danny brought their new kicker up, looks far better than the other one

Dan on the newly resurfaced 270, rides much smoother now.

Planning application

Posting this up just in case there are locals that have not seen it yet. Most of you will know that there has been a planning application submitted to the council with regards to the development of the new tracks in Clyne, it would be great if those that use the woods could send an email in support. This can influence the decision, so please check out this link for the details.

The application does not include Moos, however it is a good idea to show the council how much support there is towards cycling in the park.

Last week has been one huge digging session, who knows how many barrows have been shifted but its alot. There's been a load of people helping out too, a year ago we had maybe 2 regular diggers, but recently we've regularly had groups of 4 or 5 sometimes more, and its shows, trails are looking better than ever.

Small line is coming on really quick, 2nd and 3rd berms are done, and a new lip went up today and half the landing piled up.

Rich resurfaced the 270 berm because it was suffering after being abused by rain and frost in the winter.. and from life in general (it had lots of stones and holes and stuff...) .. but it looks sweet now! Oh and the middle of the berm is going to be dug out so its going to be much deeper.. and kind of like some kind of cradle bowl thing?? should be fun, does mean the water source is gone though.. but we get it from a dig hole now... Dans probably said this already... but its too late to change it now so your just going to have to accept the possibility of being told that twice.

Some more digging got done on the trolol berms,

well on the second one anyway.. we started

to shape it, should be pretty good when its done....

.. its going to go into a kind of hip.. roller sort of thing and then some hips and stuff,

should be cool.

Been putting in a load of work on the smallest line, first jumps is now much shorter, fruit bowl landing is steeper and we've built two berms after it. Was a shame to see the line not getting much use but this will change now we've already been riding it more and its a really fun line.

Rain at last

Massive digging session on the weekend so many helping out we ran out of spades, doesn't happen very often! Got a new lip shaped on the flow line, made a few changes to some lips and got a few things dialed.

Arrived at the trails on saturday to find someone had shaped this landing, looks like we got a mystery trail fairy!

Rich did some awesome work resurfacing this berm and the hip landing.

Left the covers off yesterday didn't expect to get this much rain! Hope nothings collapsed, trails needed it though should be good for a while now and can get some water saved up for summer.

Usual water source is pretty much dried up but we got a water butt filled up from the stream so we're ok for now. Its only ever dried up once before, that was last summer, weathers gone mad!

Got a new landing piled up on the side of the main line hip, can't get it finished until it rains, planning to build a fly off that lands into a vert berm on this line should be fun.

The big jump in the last pic has finally been tested doesn't look like its going to work as it is, its been cleared but only with a pedal. Not sure how to sort it yet going to do some work on it tomorrow, probably end up chopping the landing down, too much work to move the lip.

So dry at the moment has been no rain for weeks and none forecast for while but getting loads of riding done and the trails are running good. Last few aprils have been the same and then we get a wet july and august, we shall see...

Having to do loads of water runs to keep stuff from falling apart, usual water source is going to run out soon but we dammed a stream nearby its not very big but it should be enough.

Had a good solo dig on Saturday got bored of fixing stuff so started a new hip jump near the end of the mainline so there will be another way to get into the other branch of the line. Going to be sweet, should finish the lip this week. Will be finishing the line with a step up hip like the Eastside one cuz it looks awesome.

Another council meeting last week, everything is going well we just have one final hurdle to overcome, we need someone to sign the trails off for the council. Basically we need to get them assessed for safety reasons so the council have a bit of paper to show that they are fit for purpose. Haven't found anyone who will do it yet, so if anyone thinks they can help put a message on the chat thing.

Nearly everything is running at the trails, we just have the last few sets in the main line to sort out.

Made the first jump longer and 2nd lip mellower on the big line and its now working pretty good now.

Weekend of getting stuff dialled

No riding for me this weekend went up anyway to dig and take pics. Trails are coming on good for the time of year lots of jumps running already should have nearly everything riding next weekend.

Finished the lip today on the new jump on flow line, gap is 24ft. No way I'm testing it first would probably die!

Big line built in the winter has been tested 2nd set might be to long will have to wait and see what it like when he 1st has been run in.

First time riding bmx on the trails last weekend, just about survived, got through a few jumps nothing big but I'm happy it felt pretty good and only two crashes! British summer time soon can't wait.

No pics of me riding it yet will get some next time. Not much running yet still a bit damp and slow, won't be long though. Few pics of edd riding the start of the lines.

Good clay makes good lips

Went up the woods for a couple of hours on Saturday, finished of this lip I started the previous weekend.

Its just the 9th main line lip but I'm making it wider so you can hip into the flow line probably would have been ok as it was but you'd have to carve loads of the lip and I'd prefer not to, anyway you can jump it whatever way you like now.

Trails will be 3 years old in July, we started off with just a few abandoned jumps and this year we'll have over 20 lips and 5 lines. Been some worrying times but now with the council on our side its looking good for the future.

Had a quick look under the tarps on the weekend doesn't look good, worst winter so far for frost damage, loads of cracking and lips are flaking, going to need a lot of work to get them running good again.

Another good day on Saturday, put a load of dirt on this berm and stacked the landing up ready for clay when it warms up. Will be building the berm up higher so you can fly off the end into the landing, should be fun if it works

Sunday I went to some local pump tracks and a park to test out the BMX, rides so good, really can't wait to see what its like on the trails. Won't be long now, another month and we should be able to get the covers off, stoked!

Moving to BMX

Well, after years of riding a 24" mtb I've finally been persuaded to get a BMX. I've thought about it for a while but could never been bothered to move away from what I'm used to. I hope its the right decision it would seem to be the better bike for the trails I ride so we will see.

Progress at the trails has been slow recently, its to cold the dig holes frozen so nothing can be clayed. I'm going up today to stack a berm up, some more building pics soon.

Finally made a start on our biggest line. Its going to be 20ft step down into 20fter slight hip right, then a more long n low type jump about 28ft gap and a huge step up to finish.

Snows finally melted so I've been up the woods the last two days sorting out the 4th set landing on flow line. Now about a foot taller and steeper, should be so much better and more speed for the long one.

Going to be digging most days this week, so if anyone wants to come and help that would be good. Loads of work to do on the big line, want to get the first and second done by spring.

Got myself a new spade for christmas looks good, £11 from Amazon, bargain!

Still frozen at the woods and I'm off work for a bit so really want to do some digging got loads of things planned to do before Spring. Hope it warms up soon.

Snowed

Way too cold to do anything at the trails, grounds frozen solid and its snowed the last two days. Had a walk up there today to check everything, some bad frost damage worse than last year. Forecast says more snow, so no digging for a while.

Digging

Pic from todays digging, this is the 6th set in our new line. Put some more dirt on the landing need to beat it and the lip but the dirts really wet and sticky.

Should be able to go straight or hip on both lines.

One step closer

It looks like we're one step closer to getting the trails legal, have heard that the council have decided that we don't need to go through the planning permission process because nobody has complained about the trails in the past. Obviously this is a huge relief for us as it means the trails are safe for now.

It also means we can get on with finishing the new lines, so there will be a dig day tomorrow. There's alot of work to do to get everything ready for Spring, so it would be good if all the locals could come down and show there support. And bring a spade if you can!

Freezing, still diggin tho

Barely been above freezing for the last few weeks. Seems we're one of the only places in the Uk who haven't had any decent snow which is bad, I really like snow. At least it means we can still dig.

Went up the woods on Sunday ground was pretty frozen but managed to find a soft bit and made the long n low hip landing taller and steeper. We also did some work on the flow line the weekend before, started on the landing for the 6th set. Will get pics when I go up on the weekend.

Weekend weather is meant to be dry and not so cold so will try and arrange a dig day, got so much work to do to get stuff ready for Spring.

Coldest November day on record yesterday in Wales, -18c, no snow yet though. Went up the woods and did some work on the small line, and started a new landing on the flow line.

Went digging on saturday, didn't get alot done, had to put a load of tarps back on after the storm. Thought it would be worse though, new stuff has a habit of collapsing if it gets too wet lucky no damage. A bit more done on the berm.
